Publika.az reports that Professor Mahmut Erol Kılıç, Secretary General of the Islamic History, Art and Culture Research Center (IRCICA), spoke about this at the international scientific conference “Protecting Diversity: Fighting Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku “Multiculturalism, Islam and the Theory of the Clash of Civilizations: “Rethinking Islamophobia”, he said during his speech at the plenary session.
According to him, Islamophobia has increased enough: “We will not be wrong if we describe it as an epidemic. The social examination of this should be in harmony with the current events. Islamophobia manifests its prejudice on personal grounds and its negative manifestation in social relations. Societies of different religions, languages, and races live together. Islamophobia must be fought in order to survive. Neocolonialism, Orientalism, attempts to distinguish someone from others, and attempts to label black people as devils are unacceptable.”
The General Secretary said that it is unacceptable for Muslims to be discriminated against due to their religious beliefs: “As a Muslim society, we have a greater potential than others. Our holy book, the Qur’an, also says to make no distinction between the messengers of God. Our religion also says that we should not discriminate between people. says. From this point of view, we should be able to be tolerant to every person, regardless of their religious beliefs.”
