Diego Maradona’s heirs will go to court to stop the auction of the Ballon d’Or awarded to him after Argentina won the 1986 World Cup.

The Ballon d’Or trophy, awarded to the best player of the tournament, mysteriously disappeared for decades. It has recently resurfaced. Aguttes auction house said last week that the title will be auctioned in Paris next month.
Maradona’s heirs claim the trophy was stolen and say the current owner has no right to sell it.
Lawyer Gilles Moryer told the chairman of the Nanterre court that he will urgently apply to remove the Golden Ball from the auction. He told AP that he will also demand that the trophy be handed over to the court and that a complaint will be filed for theft.
Let’s note that Maradona, who died in 2020 at the age of 60, was the captain of the Argentine team that won the 1986 tournament in Mexico (3:2) against West Germany.
