Efforts to put initiatives into practice
Facing the current complex competitive situation in the world, the Vietnamese Government has determined the importance of promoting cooperation on important pillars of ASEAN and Vietnam’s relations with other countries, especially are about politics – foreign affairs, economics – trade – investment, security – defense, education – training, science – technology… Accordingly, it is necessary to continue to cooperate closely to build an ASEAN solidarity, unity, strengthening intra-bloc cooperation, promoting its central role in handling security and strategic issues in the region.
Since realizing the urgency of the issue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has strongly promoted the initiative of the ASEAN Future Forum with the theme of rapid and sustainable development, with people at the center, which will held in Hanoi. In every meeting and activity schedule related to ASEAN, with international leaders as well as representatives of countries and international organizations, the head of the Government always takes time to meet and express his wishes. Want to have the participation of guests at the event. At the same time, under the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently carried out comprehensive preparations to bring this initiative into practice.
Continuing the implementation of the initiative, at the most recent important meeting of Foreign Ministers of ASEAN countries – AMM Retreat in Luang Prabang, Laos on January 28, in addition to inviting countries to participate in the Forum, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized the important nature of the forum. It will be a place for extensive, multi-dimensional exchange between officials, experts, scholars, and other groups and circles about breakthrough and creative policy ideas and recommendations for development, ASEAN solidarity and cooperation.
The Minister emphasized that ASEAN needs to maintain solidarity, consensus, and promote independence and strategic autonomy. ASEAN needs to maintain a balanced, objective approach, enhance its role and voice in issues related to peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the region and the world. In particular, with a 20-year time frame, the 2045 Strategies need to have an inclusive, comprehensive and creative approach, with mechanisms for monitoring, evaluating and periodically updating to ensure that priorities are met. , ASEAN’s needs in all circumstances.

The ASEAN Future Forum 2024 is scheduled to be held on April 23 in Hanoi, with the participation of senior leaders, government levels, policymakers, experts and practitioners (businesses). , international organizations…) as well as stakeholders of member countries and partners of ASEAN.
