Many different foods are recommended to break the fast during Ramadan. There are more people who prefer to break their fast with soup, water, dates or olives.
Publika.az reports that in recent years, doctors say that breaking the fast with a sweet food, i.e. dates, after a long period of starvation, can be harmful. However, some experts say that it is very important to break the fast with dates.
Dates are satisfying due to their high nutritional value. It also plays a role in meeting the desire for sweets. With these properties, dates are among the first preferred foods during iftar.
Dates, which are a source of fiber, give a person energy and relieve the fatigue of a fasting person by first regulating blood sugar. Therefore, breaking the fast with dates at Iftar is important for health. Breaking the fast with dates will give you a feeling of fullness in the first stage and cause you to eat less.
Hadith scholar Abu Dawud narrated Prophet Muhammad’s Iftar with these words:
“The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) used to break his fast with a few fresh dates before performing the evening prayer. If fresh dates were not available, he would open them with dry dates. When he could not find dry dates, he would drink a few sips of water.”
Breaking the fast with dates can be health-promoting to balance blood sugar after a long fast, prevent overeating at Iftar, and boost your energy.
However, sugary foods such as dates can lead to unnecessary energy intake when consumed in excess. This leads to weight gain.
Starting a meal with water is also beneficial for a body that is dehydrated throughout the day. (Medicina.az)
