Telegram channels close to the press service of the President of Belarus report that a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Lukashenko has begun in the Kremlin. The situation on the Ukrainian front is “fifty-fifty”. Either Russia will manage to capture new territories, strategic cities and at least impose political capitulation, or the military operations will continue according to the principle of “war of attrition”.
It is planned to convene a Ukrainian settlement conference in Switzerland at the beginning of next week. Apparently, the Russian president invited the “satrap” of Belarus to the Kremlin to discuss the issue of Minsk’s involvement in the war. If Russia has a “plan to capture Kiev”, as Western military experts assume, then a Belarusian “breakthrough” from the north of Ukraine may be possible. Especially since Alexander Lukashenko recently announced “preparation for war”.
In this context, it became known that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan had a separate meeting with his Belarusian counterpart, having formally left for Minsk to participate in the conference of foreign ministers of the CIS countries. According to the official report, the parties discussed issues related to the organization of more than 60 events planned by the memorandum signed between the parties on February 24 of this year.
The wording of the message that the foreign ministers “placed special importance on the organization of high-level and high-level meetings” is worthy of special attention, from which it clearly follows that either Lukashenko will visit Baku or Ilham Aliyev will visit Minsk during the year, as well as meetings of prime ministers and ministerial level will take place. : This is already a strategic cooperation agenda with all its components.
At the beginning of the year, it became known that Ukrainian President Zelensky sent a message to Ilham Aliyev, suggesting that he become a participant in the development of principles of Ukrainian settlement. There was no response from Baku. It is almost obvious that Azerbaijan will not participate in the conference to be convened in Switzerland on the issue of Ukraine. In other circumstances, such an attitude of Baku could be explained by the pragmatism of not escalating relations with Russia.
It is not paper that matters, but practical solidarity. The challenge in this sense is that a paper guarantee might satisfy Ukraine or the Ukrainian elite. In the case of Armenia, the situation is completely different. Especially since the ambassador of the United States said almost everything in plain text.
