Ireland / Twelve injured by turbulence of a Boeing 787 on a Qatar Airways flight

Flight QR017 operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft landed in Dublin shortly before 13:00 local time

Twelve people on board a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Ireland were injured during turbulence, Dublin Airport said today, adding that the plane landed safely and as scheduled.

Flight QR017, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed in Dublin just before 1pm local time, the airport said.

“Emergency services including airport police and the fire service attended the aircraft upon landing as six passengers and six crew members (12 in total) reported injuries from turbulence encountered by the aircraft while flying over Turkey Dublin Airport said in a statement.

The incident came five days after a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore made an emergency landing in Bangkok due to severe turbulence that killed a 73-year-old Briton and sent 20 others to intensive care. .

Accidents caused by in-flight turbulence are the most common type of accident, according to a 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board.

From 2009 to 2018, the US agency found that more than a third of reported plane crashes were due to turbulence, and most resulted in one or more injuries but no aircraft damage.
