If the Armenian authorities want to negotiate directly with Azerbaijan without the participation of Russia, this is their choice.
Publika.az reports, this was said by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, during his speech to the teachers and students of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
“In 2020-2022, the tripartite agreements signed by Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan at several summits envisage the restoration of transport relations. In this regard, I also remind the tripartite commission. But now these things have stopped. Now, if Yerevan practically wants to do this directly with Azerbaijan, for God’s sake, let them do it if they can,” Lavrov said.
According to the minister, “despite all the differences and inconsistencies”, Russia and its colleagues understand who stands for what: “There is a desire and there is already a result in terms of bringing our approaches closer to development. It is the result of agreed parallel processes, which will ultimately be positive.”
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press conference on August 31 that direct negotiations with Azerbaijan are yielding positive results and now he does not see the need to restore the tripartite format, including with the participation of Russia.
