Iran planned to assassinate former President Donald Trump, according to CNN

On Tuesday, US intelligence officials revealed that Iran planned to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

The Secret Service even increased security around Trump.

Despite the Secret Service’s claims, the failures that led to Thomas Matthew Crooks’ assassination attempt on the president on Saturday are still being evaluated. It should be noted that the attacker was not connected to the alleged Iran plot.

The Secret Service was informed of the threat by the Homeland Security Committee. Donald Trump was notified on Saturday. In response to the threat, the Secret Service deployed its resources to protect the former president.

According to CNN, the Trump campaign has been warned against holding rallies outside, which could increase the risks compared to events with better access control.

The investigation into the attempted assassination is currently active and so far no links have been found between the young man and an accomplice or co-conspirator, whether foreign or domestic.

Meanwhile, the Iranian embassy in the United States denied that such a plan existed, calling the allegations “unsubstantiated and malicious.”

“From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be tried and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani.”

Since January 2020, the country has reiterated its vow of revenge for the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force.

Other Trump administration officials who have allegedly been targeted in an assassination plot include former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former national security advisers Robert O’Brien and John Bolton.
