Meanwhile, he cited the ‘snapback’ mechanism that allows members of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal to reimpose international sanctions against Iran.
During the meeting, US Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood said, “As members of the Security Council, we have a collective responsibility to ensure that Iran complies with Security Council resolutions and ceases violations of the Charter.”
He further said that in the coming days, the United States will “consider more measures to make Iran accountable.”
Between Saturday and Sunday, Iran launched over 300 missiles and drones in its first direct attack on Israel. Almost all of which were blocked by Israel and other countries including the US, Jordan and the UK.
Iran says the attack is in response to an attack on its embassy in Damascus.
Addressing the emergency meeting, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is exercising its fundamental right to self-defense.
