Resident Evil 4 Remake was released on December 20th on iPhone in a port that didn’t particularly impress us. The specialists of Digital foundry they became interested in the performance of the iPhone 15 Pro version through a video test, in which they compared it with the PS4 version.
Resident Evil 4 is a game designed primarily for the PS5/Xbox Series Unsurprisingly, it’s the one visually closest to the iPhone. The iPhone version has some advantages over the Sony console, for example offering faster loading times. Lighting management is almost identical, and the tester notes that when it comes to overall visual settings, the iPhone’s code is comparable to that of the PS4.

Several issues found on the home console are also present on the phone, for example in terms of texture loading time. They can be more annoying on mobile devices, such as shadow grain which is more pronounced. Capcom has obviously made concessions for the porting to iOS with some less defined textures without distorting the game too much. The tester believes these various compromises are related to the game’s very low resolution, which he estimates at around 300p before upscaling to 720p by MetalFX.

Some elements spoil the party, such as clearly visible artifacts or large fps drops. If these only occur sporadically once every 5-10 minutes, they are severe enough to exclude the player from the experience. The port generally manages to maintain the 30fps threshold, although the speed is not necessarily maintained during the busier action scenes. In comparison, the PS4 version hovers between 30 and 60 fps.

There is therefore progress regarding the porting Resident Evil: Village, which was much less convincing. No longer being able to change various graphics settings helps avoid crashes and other performance issues. The title remains playable, albeit with mixed performance. Now let’s wait to see what happens Death standing which will arrive in January. A transport ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage it is also scheduled for later this year.
