Investigation of videos circulating about Raisi’s helicopter – 2024-07-21 18:10:35

Many online media and social media users share videos showing the “moment of the incident” about the helicopter crash that killed the Iranian president and other officials.

Publika.az reports that Faktyokla Lab. examined some of these videos.

Telegram channel “Moize” broadcasts this video, suggesting that it is the footage of the moment when the helicopter carrying Iran’s President Raisi crashed.

There are several pieces of evidence that prove the video does not belong to the latest accident.

From them the first one it is the fact that the images in the presented video were taken in clear weather.

Secondly, the helicopter used by the Iranian officials is “Bell 212”, and the helicopter on which the images are presented is the “MI-8” helicopter.

Finally, the third argument: when searching for this video shared by social media users using the “reverse photo search” method, it becomes clear that these images refer to the moments when the border police rescue helicopter crashed in Gudauri, Georgia on July 29, 2022.

The information is incorrect, Iranian President Raisi and other state officials are not involved in the helicopter crash.

Another video circulating on social media shows shots taken from the cockpit of a helicopter crashing into trees in a forest massif in foggy weather.

When searching for a video using the “reverse photo search” method, it turns out that this video is also old and It is not related to the accident in Iran.

The video was taken from a helicopter flying over the jungles of Panama. The video was shared by lawyer Dmitri Flores, a candidate for the 2024 presidential elections in Panama. It is reported that 5 other people who were in the helicopter with him survived after the accident. The incident took place on August 17, 2022, during a trip from the city of Changinoly to the city of David. source

Another misinformation related to the recent events is related to the photos shared from the scene. Let’s note in advance that the images of the surrounding areas and fog conditions in the photos taken from the scene of the incident are similar to the conditions and area of the accident in the last incident, causing confusion among the readers.

But when these photos are searched using the “reverse photo search” method, it becomes clear that the photos are not new, but belong to 2020. The published photos were taken during the work of the rescuers and the remains of the crashed police helicopter near Shalmanshahr in the Mazandaran province of Iran. It can be seen in the photos released by the Iranian Red Crescent Society on April 22, 2020.

Result:

– The video broadcast by “Moize” telegram channel has nothing to do with the latest accident. That video was taken on July 29, 2022, at the moment when the rescue helicopter of the border police crashed in the city of Gudauri, Georgia.

– The video shared under the title “Last images, the moment of the accident” is also not new and was recorded in Panama in 2022.

– The images showing rescuers working at the scene are not related to the recent incident. These images were taken in 2020 during the work of rescuers and the remains of a crashed police helicopter near Shalmanshahr in the Mazandaran province of Iran.
