There is a real “invasion” of rats in the trenches on the front line in Ukraine, Ukrainska Pravda writes on Monday. Mice bite soldiers, clothing and, for example, cables of Starlink systems.

Rodents are a big problem at the front, especially in winter. The most common species found in trenches are house mice, the site points out. The mice eat soldiers’ food, chew through clothes and cables, damage equipment, disturb sleep and can transmit diseases, Ukrainska Pravda says.

During the night, a mouse crawled into my hand and bit my finger and nail. (…) Other boys had their fingertips bitten off so badly that in the morning their smartphones did not recognize their fingerprints – said Volodymyr from the 128th Transcarpathian Independent Assault Brigade.
Such a large number of rodents is due, among other things, to the ease of obtaining food: firstly, the surrounding fields were sown and the harvest was not harvested due to the war.
Secondly, it is easy for house mice to get bread and semolina intended for soldiers, and it is also tastier and more nutritious for them. Rats also escape into the trenches due to the frost and the fact that their living environment has been disturbed – we read on the site.
