The Canadian Soccer Federation said she is “deeply disturbed” after her soccer player Moïse Bombito received racist attacks on social networks after the opening match of the Copa América that faced Argentina.

The federation (Canada Soccer) “is aware and deeply disturbed by the racist comments made on the Internet and directed at one of our men’s national team players after the match,” the body said.
“We are in communication with Concacaf and Conmebol about this matter,” he added.
In its brief text, the federation does not mention the name of Bombito, a player who received multiple insults on his Instagram account after he made a strong tackle on Lionel Messi in the final stretch of the opening match of the Copa América, in which Canada lost 2-0 to Argentina at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (Georgia).
Concacaf, co-organizer of this edition of the Copa América along with Conmebol, joined the condemnation on Friday and said that it is working together with the South American confederation and FIFA to try to locate those responsible for the attacks on the Canadian soccer player.
“We stand with Canada Soccer in condemning the disgraceful social media posts directed at Moïse Bombito. Racism has no place in our sport or in society,” said the North American, Central American and Caribbean Soccer Confederation (Concacaf).
“We are working with the Federation, Conmebol and FIFA to look for ways to investigate accounts that posted racist material”, he advanced.
The insults on Bombito’s account focused on an action in which the MLS Colorado Rapids defender forcefully hit Lionel Messi when both were fighting over a loose ball in the 82nd minute.
The Canadian defender lunged and, after touching the ball, then hit the Argentine star in both legs, who received medical attention, but was able to continue on the grass and later provided the assist for the second Albiceleste goal.
Bombito himself reacted to the insults in a post on Instagram in which he wrote: “My beautiful Canada. There is no place for this shit.”
