Inquiry by LASY about the work accident in Aristi

A petition on the labor accident in Aristi was filed by the leader Giorgos Prentzas and the regional councilors of the People’s Rally Tina Zeka, Kostas Kotsantis and Giorgos Aleiftiras.

The regional faction says that the President of the Labor Center and the President of the Builders’ Federation found that absolutely no measures were taken to protect the lives of workers at the construction site.

The faction makes extensive reference to the work accidents, attributing responsibility to the state and the absence of controls, and formulates a series of questions addressed to the Regional Governor about the specific project.

1. With what controls did the Region receive the tender documents for the project, which state the contractor’s obligations? Has anyone opened even a sample of the tender documents, which not only do not include any additional measures for the protection of workers but, contrary to the elements of the health and safety plan, mention the DEYA of Corfu as the project owner??

2. The Region, as a supervisory authority, had to supervise all the obligations of the contractor, both the technical specifications and the measures for the protection of workers (since they were part of the contractual obligations of the contractor). Has ANY observation been recorded by the supervising engineers regarding compliance with the measures? And if they were indeed recorded, were written recommendations made to the contractor, was SEPE notified? What was recorded in the project log? Was there a project calendar? Was it sent to Technical Service? What did the Health & Safety Dossier describe that the contractor had to complete?

3. If the technical staff of the Region, due to understaffing, has objective difficulties to supervise the projects, why does the Regional Authority continue to enter into program contracts with the Municipalities and undertake to do projects? Are the contractors benefiting or not from this attitude of the Region of Epirus?
