The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor reported that due to the stability in the consumer price index, the annualized rate of the macroeconomy was 3.3% in May, compared to 3.4% in April.

The news of inflationary stability between the months of April and May is announced a few hours before the Open Market Committee of the Federal Reserve (Central Bank) of the United States reveals its ruling regarding monetary policy.

It is foreseeable that the Federal Reserve will decide not to make changes to the interest rates on short-term loans, however, if the trend of inflationary control persists or is slightly reduced, it is possible that in July the Open Market Committee will determine a cut to the rates. interests.

The Department of Labor emphasizes that the good news in inflation emerges from the contraction in the price of some fuels such as gasoline, which was 3.6%, and electricity, which was more moderate, which was 0.1%.

One of the sections of the inflation measurement that remained on the rise was the cost of housing, which increased by 0.4%, another; that of food rose 0.1%, and in annualized terms inflation in basic basket products rose by 2.1% in May.

The cost of medical services and hospital stays recorded during the fifth month of 2024 increased by 0.5%, while the value of medicines shot up by 2.1%.

With respect to new and used automobiles, the inflation rate of states registered an increase of 0.6% in May, although the cost of tickets to travel by plane fell 3.6%, that of communication services in general contracted 0.3% and , leisure and recreation costs fell by 0.2%.
