India’s first underwater metro rail – 2024-03-07 19:50:35

For the first time in India, metro rail has started running under the river bed. The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the official journey of this metro rail on Wednesday (March 6) morning. It is named East-West Metrorail.

This metro rail will go from Howrah Maidan metro station under Ganga river to Esplanade station. The distance from Howrah Maidan metro station to Esplanade station is 4.8 km. Of this, 520 meters of the line has gone under water.

On this day, the Prime Minister started this Metrorail by waving the green flag. Apart from this, Narendra Modi inaugurated several other metro services across the country. Governor CV Anand Bose, party MP Sukant Majumdar, Leader of Opposition Subvendu Adhikari and other top railway officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.

After the inauguration, Narendra Modi himself rode the metro rail along with the school students. He traveled from Dharmatala Esplanade to Howrah Maidan Metro Station. On this occasion, the metro rail is specially decorated with flowers and colored paper.

However, although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was invited to the inauguration ceremony, she was absent. Even, in the absence of Mamata, no other representative from the state government was seen on the occasion.

After inaugurating the railway project, the Prime Minister attended a party function at Barasa in North 24 Parganas district. Speaking at the event, recalling his childhood days, he said that metro rail was built all over the country after seeing the Kolkata Metro. When I first came to Kolkata as a child, I had a distinct fascination with riding the metro.

‘In the last 40 years, Kolkata had only 28 km of metro. And during the tenure of the BJP government, an additional 31 km of track has been added to the Kolkata Metro. In the last 10 years, the BJP government has developed the infrastructure of Bengal.

Howrah is a very important railway station in West Bengal. Naturally, the connectivity between Howrah-Kolkata-Salt Lake will be easier with this new metro project. Not only that, because of the launch of this new metro route, Howrah is also connected with multiple metro stations of Kolkata.
