India test-fired a fully indigenous missile. The missile has been named Agni-5. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed the launch on Monday (March 11). Modi congratulated the scientists of the country’s defense research and development organization for this success.

According to the Indian media, the Agni-5 missile uses sensors that can accurately hit the target at any time. Only a handful of countries in the world have this Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. Now India has been added to that list.

Experts say that this missile is made for the long-term security of India. The Agni-5 missile can destroy almost any target in the entire Asian continent, including the northern part of China, a part of Europe.

According to the report of Times of India, the ballistic missile made by India weighs 50 tons. It is the latest missile in the Agni series capable of carrying nuclear warheads. This missile can travel up to 5000 km. On the other hand, the range of Agni-1 to Agni-4 missiles was between 700 km and 3500 km.

Meanwhile, Sino-Indian tensions have arisen over the entry of surveillance ships into the Bay of Bengal. According to Indian media reports, a Chinese vessel named ‘Xian Yang Hong-1’ was spotted less than 260 nautical miles off the coast of Visakhapatnam. It is believed that China is sending the ship to monitor the east coast of India. However, Beijing has not officially announced anything about this.
