India has adopted laser anti-drone systems as weapons – 2024-03-23 08:38:36

The Indian Army’s ground forces have been armed with the first batch of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), mobile radio jamming and laser-based detection and neutralization systems. The Times of India reported about it, citing military sources.

The systems, named IDD&IS, will be deployed on India’s border with China. They are capable of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles at a distance of 5 to 8 km, the radius of attack by radio-electronic interference reaches 2 to 5 km, and the destruction by high-energy laser reaches 800 meters.

“These systems are variants of the Mark-1 UAVs already in the air defense system, developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics,” a military source told The Times of India.

According to the publication, the devices were developed based on the analysis of combating drones during the conflicts between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine. According to sources, improved versions of the IDD&IS with a longer interception range are under development.

The Times of India adds that India’s armed forces have signed contracts with domestic developers to develop various effective anti-drone systems, including using jamming, jamming satellite channels to control drones and destroying them with laser weapons. :
