Index – Interior – The ministry spoke about the demolition of the railway line in Komló

A MÁV document dated August 13 contains a plan for the demolition of the inner-city section of the Komló railway line, which was ordered by the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), we wrote in our Sunday article. The document was also shared by the former State Secretary of Transport Dávid Vitézy.

The ministry clarified in a statement on Monday:

The Ministry of Construction and Transportation has ordered an investigation into the replacement of the railway line that runs through the city of Komló, and not its termination. The previous and since re-elected leadership of the Baranya county settlement asked the ministry to review the need for a railway line through the center of the settlement for the sake of Komló’s cityscape, economic and industrial development plans, and hand over the railway areas to the municipality.

The ministry also revealed that: “According to the head of the settlement, it is important from the point of view of the city that the real downtown utilization of the unused areas occupied by the railway can begin. The operating license of the stone crusher, which operates next to the local elementary school and kindergarten, expires in 2026, after which the current track section will not be used. Taking into account the location of the new stone quarry, the municipality requested the Ministry’s investigation into the modification of the railway track. A decision has not yet been made in the matter.” To support their claims, the ÉKM attached to the announcement the letter written by the mayor in the case.
