The court extended the arrest of Óbuda mayor László Kiss by three months. According to Magyar Nemzet, he will remain in prison until December 16, but the order is not yet final.
As we reported on the Index: in the criminal case initiated at the Central Investigative General Prosecutor’s Office due to corruption crimes, the prosecutor’s office proposed the extension of the arrest of mayor László Kiss, who was re-elected in the municipal election held on June 9, by three months, until December 16, 2024.
According to the suspicion, after his election as mayor in October 2019, László Kiss agreed with an acquaintance that the companies belonging to his interests would regularly receive orders from the municipality, for which he and other official and unofficial persons working at the municipality would have to pay back money.
The former mayor of Óbuda and Békásmegyer was detained on August 14, and his arrest was ordered two days later.
According to Index, the right-wing representatives of the Óbuda-Békásmegyer Municipality sent a letter to the local representatives elected in this year’s local government elections on Thursday to find a solution to the situation in the district, which has become unmanageable, in an informal meeting before the inaugural meeting in October.
After all, the court placed both Mayor László Kiss and Deputy Mayor Gergő Czeglédy under pretrial detention, leaving the capital’s second most populous district without leadership and management.
