Index – Economy – The price of a basic food in Hungary unexpectedly fell

Based on the latest data from the European Commission, the processing sales price of whole chickens with a meat content of 65 percent in the European Union was on average 2.7673 euros/kilogram, i.e. 4.7 percent higher than in the same period of 2023. In the same comparison, the price in Hungary is 2.3847 euros/kilogram, which is 4.1 percent below the price of a year ago, writes Agroinform based on the report of the Agrárközgazdasági Intézet (AKI).

The price change of fresh chicken in Hungary in the 35th week was as follows:

• chicken breast fillet: HUF 1,780.4/kilogram, which is 3.3 percent lower than a year ago,
• bone-in chicken breast: HUF 1,266.2/kilogram, ami 15.8 percent higher than last year,
• bone-in chicken leg: HUF 881.1/kilogram, ami 2.1 percent higher than in the same period in 2023,
• chicken liver with heart: HUF 838.2/kilogram, and which 7 percent lower than last year.

This is how the deep flight of the egg took place

Based on data from the AKI Market Price Information System (PÁIR) in Hungary

• the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping was HUF 48.49/piece until the 35th week, which was 18.6 percent lower than the average price for the same period in 2023.
• The retail price of boxed eggs of size class M increased by 17.1 percent to HUF 51.46/piece.
• the price of boxed eggs in size class L decreased by 15.8 percent to HUF 60.40/piece.
• The price of M tray eggs at the packing point increased by 21.4 percent to HUF 43.44/piece,
• the price of L-tray eggs decreased by 21.9 percent to HUF 46.72/piece,
• the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-laying was HUF 57.14/piece, which is 14.5 percent lower than the average price for the same period in 2023.

Based on data from the European Commission, compared to the same period of the previous year, the EU’s egg and egg product imports increased by a total of about 23 percent to 47,000 tons.
