Index – Domestic – The situation is serious, the price wave is coming, Viktor Orbán has canceled all foreign trips

Led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the flood protection operative group held a meeting on Monday at the National Emergency Management Center of the Ministry of the Interior. In addition to the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér was also present at the extraordinary event.

As is known, due to the continuous rain in the catchment areas of the Danube, as well as the large amount of precipitation that has fallen so far and is expected in the coming days, a high level of preparedness has developed on the Danube and its tributaries. In several countries of Central Europe, due to the sudden amount of water that fell, rivers overflowed their beds in several places and flooded houses.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán shared a video on his social media site after the meeting, where he talks about how serious the situation is and that a large amount of water is indeed coming into the territory of Hungary, and then he named the three most dangerous locations: Szigetköz, the Danube Bend and Budapest.

The degree of danger is not greater than it was in 2013. We have to solve the task, it is not unprecedented. In 2013, the Danube peaked half a meter higher than we expect now. We were also able to prevent that, I am convinced that Hungary can do this as well

Viktor Orbán reported on the situation.

The prime minister asked the leaders of the operative tribe to ensure that everyone stays in their own area and to take sharp, clear, enforceable and controlled measures.

Disaster management has created operational teams at the central level and in all the counties affected by the flood at the regional level, which coordinate damage elimination and flood preparation 24 hours a day.

The Prime Minister stays at home

Viktor Orbán published a new video on his Facebook page showing pictures of the meeting with the operative tribe. In the video, István Láng, the head of the National Water Directorate General, talks about how it is possible that “the highest flood level ever will occur”, but their people are out everywhere and working non-stop.

Of course, until we reach the climax and overcome the difficulty, I will not leave the country, I will stay at home

said the prime minister in the dramatic video. He added that Minister of the Interior Sándor Pintér is in charge of the defense.

Although the Hungarian Prime Minister is expected in Strasbourg on Wednesday (September 18), for a debate in the European Parliament, where Orbán would present the program of the Hungarian presidency. However, in view of the flood, Péter Magyar, the president of the Tisza Party, asked Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament, in an official letter to postpone the hearing of the Hungarian Prime Minister until October.

Although the Tisza Party could speak twice at the event, and this would be the first personal debate between Orbán and Magyar, the latter still preferred the postponement in his Sunday morning login on his social media page. Although no official response has yet been received from Metsola, it can be concluded from Viktor Orbán’s statement on Monday that it is not really important, as the Hungarian Prime Minister stated that he will stay at home.

The president of the Tisza Party considers it a correct decision that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán postponed his trip to Strasbourg.

Accepting our proposal, Viktor Orbán canceled his participation in the European Parliament debate in Strasbourg. Right decision. During such a serious flood situation, there is no place for political debates, full national unity is needed. We need a man on the dam!

– said Magyar in his statement sent to MTI.
