“Neither half a year nor three days before, did anyone inform Pál Völner that an investigation and secret surveillance was underway against him,” Pál Völner’s lawyer, Gábor Papp, told 24.hu, according to
if the former secretary of state had found out about this, he would have immediately reported this to the immunity committee of the Parliament, since the law prohibits the wiretapping of a member of parliament due to his right to immunity.
“This was also mentioned at the trial of the criminal case,” he added. His lawyer also pointed out that Pál Völner did not receive any help, he has been under criminal proceedings for two and a half years. In addition, all of his assets were frozen and, according to him, his right to defend himself was severely limited.
The investigation was closed too soon, his defense was not checked, important witnesses were not interviewed, including Judit Varga.
He then stated: in his opinion, the hearing of the former justice minister is crucial, because as head of ministry he led an office organization in which he had to know if something illegal was happening.
According to the Völner couple’s lawyer, the audio recording cannot be interpreted, because it does not reveal what the former secretary of state did not stop doing, nor what they told him about in the spring.
As we wrote in our summary, the prosecution interviewed Péter Magyar for the second time on Tuesday, and simultaneously published the audio recording on which he and his ex-wife, Judit Varga, can be heard. The former Minister of Justice and Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás also responded to the developments. Péter Magyar announced a demonstration in the evening and is already preparing to run in this year’s European Parliament elections.
Péter Magyar went to the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office at 9 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, a huge media interest awaited him in front of the entrance of the building, while he published on his Facebook and YouTube pages the audio recording on which he and Judit Varga can be heard.
