Based on the data so far, it is increasingly likely that the pilot’s illness caused the tragedy, since according to the footage, the plane showed an “unguided flight” until the impact. Two people died in the accident on Saturday.
The Ministry of Construction and Transportation also issued a statement regarding the small plane that crashed on Saturday. As is well known: an aerobatics plane crashed into the ground near Ráceresztúr, with two passengers on board, and both lost their lives.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the Traffic Safety Organization is investigating the circumstances of the accident. For now, all that is known for sure is that the Extra 330L type airplane with registration number HA-PET took off from the Tököl airport at 9:30 a.m. with two people on board. The plane arrived three minutes later in the training airfield between Martonvásár and Ráckeresztúr, where after flying for a few minutes, it hit the ground in an almost vertical position at high speed. The pilot and his passenger died on the spot, the aircraft was destroyed. According to an expert, the plane could have been traveling at up to 300 km/h before it crashed into the ground.
“Following the announcement, the accident investigators of the KBSZ began the investigation of the scene, during which they managed to uncover and identify the main parts of the aircraft, as well as the plane’s steering surfaces,” they wrote in the announcement, then highlighted: “the files recorded by the action camera found at the scene were recovered by the KBSZ specialists during the weekend.” .
Based on the recording, in the 8th minute of the flight, the pilot presumably showed signs of feeling unwell, after which the aircraft showed unguided flight characteristics until the end of the recorded recording.
“The KBSZ is investigating the possibility of a technical failure in the framework of a detailed inspection with the experts of the police and the aviation authority,” added the ÉKM.
According to press reports, the pilot who died in the accident may have been the former Hungarian ambassador to Singapore.
