Index – Abroad – Ukraine’s new secret weapon could be a turning point in the war

The Russian-Ukrainian war rages on, in which the attacking troops continuously hit the defenders with precision missiles. Ukraine is trying to retaliate with the glide bombs it received from the United States and France, but due to the difference in quantity, they can land much fewer hits than Russia. For this reason, they began to develop their own such a weapon, and the process, according to Forbes, has ended – and this could be a turning point in the fighting.

The Ukrainian Air Force recently released a video showing a Su-24 fighter jet equipped with a prototype cruise missile. Their own missile is very similar to the Hammer bombs received from the French, with which they have been attacking Russian positions for a long time. Although the Ukrainian armed forces are satisfied with the weapons – similar to the American JDAM-ER missiles, they receive only fifty of the former per month, which does not even compete with the approximately three thousand projectiles deployed by the attackers.

The self-developed missile is equipped with a range-increasing accelerator and wings, with which it can hit targets up to 65 kilometers away from launch. In addition to the new missiles ending Ukraine’s reliance on allies,

they also solve the problem of France and the United States having a say in who to deploy them against.

For example, Washington has prohibited the Ukrainian armed forces from sending JDAM-ERs to Russian territory, and despite repeated requests from Kiev to lift the restriction, the West wants to avoid escalation at all costs.

The new weapons add to Ukraine’s growing military portfolio. Recently, self-developed cruise missiles named Neptun and the Paljanicia missile drone were presented, however, they also disclosed data about an unmanned aircraft that can travel up to 1,600 kilometers before hitting a target – packed with explosives, of course.

For the time being, Ukraine is testing its new missiles, while the French and American weapons remain. However, soon the Su-24, Su-27 and MiG-29 planes will be able to launch self-made projectiles against the Russians.
