Index – Abroad – Russia’s war in Ukraine – Index’s Monday news summary

“Putin discreetly announced a mobilization: everyone must understand the times we live in” – Moskovskii Komsomolets wrote an article with this title about the Russian president’s interesting statements at a meeting last week.

In the article (which, by the way, summarized the most important developments of the previous week), the progressive tax bill presented by the Russian president the other day was covered, among other things.

In this regard, they noted: it is obvious that the tax system developed in recent decades did not serve the interests of the vast majority of Russian citizens, and they called it “sad and significant” that only the war could force the government to make this change. They also noted that the same is true for other areas: the conflict in Ukraine was needed to initiate positive changes, otherwise they would “steal and devour” Russia.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was also quoted in connection with the above, who announced in a Telegram post at the end of last week that they had “accounted” for themselves in relation to the West. Russia is already waging a “war” (the use of the word is significant because previously the conflict in Ukraine could only be referred to as a “special operation”). They also touched on the fact that Vladimir Putin also brought up the mobilization at the meeting of the National Projects Council the previous week, and practically announced it in the broadest sense of the word.

I don’t want to force anything, but I ask you to pay attention to this – we all understand, everyone should understand what age we live in and what historical stage Russia is going through. And if we understand this, then everyone, everyone must work as if they were on the front line. Everyone must feel mobilized, and this is the only way to achieve the set goals. There is no other way to work in modern conditions.

A The author of Moskovskii Komsomolets emphasized that Putin was really only talking about mobilization in a broad sense, but according to him, the Russian president’s words can be indicative because he started to put the entire state administration on a war footing, “ldeeply confident that this will be enough so that the life of the whole country does not have to be put on a war footing”.

And, I have to say, he’s doing it pretty darn well so far, saying that »we understand everything, in any case everyone should understand the times we live in«. That is, for those »who didn’t understand«, they still have a chance to understand. But if they don’t want to… Of course, it’s too early to prepare the popcorn, but the country is really changing – maybe we’ll see something unexpected, or even long-awaited. As we expected the progressive tax table

the author thought.
