In Minsk, Péter Szijjártó and Belarusian Foreign Minister Szjarhej Alejnyik jointly chair the 12th meeting of the Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation.
“Many trade, economic and investment issues are expected to be discussed. The work will focus on cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, industrial cooperation, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, construction, sports, tourism, education and science. Before the meeting of the commission, working groups will meet,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the BelTA news agency.
The business forum planned as part of the visit will be opened by the foreign ministers of Belarus and Hungary. The two foreign ministers will hold face-to-face discussions and meetings with the participation of the delegations.
Péter Szijjártó last visited Minsk last October, where he participated in the opening of the Eurasian Security Conference. In his speech following his Belarusian and Russian counterparts, Syarhei Aleinyik and Sergey Lavrov, the minister stated that there is no solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the battlefield, only at the negotiating table.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Szharhei Alejnyik, visited Hungary last April. Péter Szijjártó reported on this on his social media site at the time that “the hope of peace in Ukraine lives as long as the communication channels are open, so it is important to maintain the dialogue with Belarus despite all expected criticism and attacks”.
The Hungarian foreign minister’s last visit to Minsk in February was preceded by a previous trip to Belarus, for which the European Parliament condemned Péter Szijjártó. According to the position of the EP representatives, the visit was contrary to the EU policy against Russian aggression.
