The German leadership also sent a message

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his shock at the knife attack and stressed that “the perpetrator must be caught quickly and brought down to the full extent of the law.”

The attack in Solingen is a terrible crime, I am completely upset. We mourn the victims and sympathize with their families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser – also on X – stated that the German authorities will do everything in their power to apprehend the perpetrator of the brutal attack and clarify the motive for the crime. The minister assured the police of North Rhine-Westphalia of the federal government’s support in their work. He added that he is in constant contact with Provincial Interior Minister Herbert Reul on the matter.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also wrote similar words in his statement as the chancellor. “Let’s unite against hate and violence!” he added. Philipp Müller, one of the organizers of the celebration on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the acquisition of city rights, asked people from the stage after the attack late on Friday evening to try to keep calm, but to “keep your eyes open, because unfortunately the perpetrator has not yet been caught”. .

In Germany, the number of knife attacks has increased recently, which worries society. For the time being, the Minister of the Interior has only suggested tightening the regulations on stabbing and cutting tools that can be owned in public areas: instead of a 12-centimeter edge length, only 6-centimeter blades should be allowed.
