An alleged failure in the Interbank system affected multiple clients in May
He National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) announced on Wednesday that it has initiated an administrative sanctioning procedure against the International Bank of Peru (Interbank)after receiving multiple complaints from users about the decrease in the balances in their bank accounts, last May 4, 2024.
That day, many users reported through the social network X that their Interbank accounts showed a balance of S/ 0 without having made payments or transfers. News sources indicated that these discounts were due to an error in the Interbank system, which was later corrected and the funds were restored.

Indecopi began investigation
Through the Technical Secretariat of the Consumer Protection Commissionafter carrying out the corresponding preliminary investigation, determined the initiation of this administrative sanctioning procedure against the banking entity. The action is based on the alleged failure to comply with the duty of information and suitability, as established by the Consumer Protection and Defense Code.
According to this Code, Suppliers are obliged to provide consumers with all relevant information for the proper use of the products or services offered, and these must comply with what was promised in terms of the information transmitted, as well as the characteristics and nature of the products or services.
