Innovative technology reduces the risk of accidents in Austria
Vienna (OTS) – Traffic light-controlled intersections remain accident hotspots. The video-based red light monitoring developed by VITRONIC influences driving behavior and can reduce red light violations at traffic light-controlled intersections in Austrian road and rail traffic.
Safe intersections through traffic monitoring
In 2023, 396 people died in traffic accidents. Violation of right of way and ignoring red lights are still a common cause of accidents in road traffic. In Austria, road users ignore red lights around four times per second. KfV (Board of Trustees for Road Safety).
Efficient intersection monitoring has a preventive effect and leads to more legally compliant driving behavior. This helps road users to safely overcome complex traffic situations at intersections.
Video-based red light monitoring with artificial intelligence (AI)
VITRONIC is presenting the POLISCAN Redlight VA measuring system at Intertraffic (April 16-19, 2024 in Amsterdam). Instead of conventional laser technology, traffic technology uses video analysis to evaluate red light violations. The AI-based data evaluation detects dangerous situations in real time and automatically distinguishes between pedestrians, cyclists and motorized road users. This modern technology opens up new possibilities: for example, identifying people who use their smartphone while driving.
The innovative technology will play a crucial role in optimizing urban transport in the future, for example in managing traffic congestion or enforcing access restrictions. Among other things, vehicle data such as license plate number, vehicle type and the number of occupants are recorded.
