Increase in the grant to Municipal Regional Theatres

A discussion with the Artistic Directors and members of the management of the Municipal Regional Theaters – DIPETHE was held today by the Deputy Minister of Culture Christos Dimas, in view of the amendment and signing of their new programming contract. A representative of DIPETHE Ioannina participated in the meeting.

In the teleconference, in which the General Secretary of Contemporary Culture, Mrs. Eleni Doundoulakis, as well as officials, participated, the overall and individual issues/requests, mainly of a financial and administrative nature, were raised by DIPETHE, while proposals were also developed for more effective cooperation with the Local Local government and the Ministry of Culture.

In particular, Mr. Dimas, responding to corresponding requests from DIPETHE, referred to the following:

• In consultation with the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, an increase in the subsidy of the Ministry of Education with an amount exceeding 14%, in each DIPETHE for 2024, compared to 2023.
• Acceptance of the request for a provision in the program contract that it is necessary to employ professional actors from DIPETHE, i.e. graduates of a Drama School recognized by the Ministry of Education or members of the Greek Actors Association.
• The auxiliary role of the YPPO to the DIPETHE makes the obligation to have an Artistic Director in each of them self-evident.
• The Ministry of Education supports the provision of a three-year term for artistic directors, the possibility of renewing it once, as well as the timely announcement of their positions.
