As of this Monday, July 1, the provisions of Decree 1909, signed by President Santiago Peña, come into force, which establishes the readjustment of the legal minimum wage reaching 2,798,309 guaraníes, while the minimum wage becomes 107,627 guaraníes.
This readjustment was ordered based on the report submitted by the National Minimum Wage Commission, which based on the Consumer Price Index report prepared by the Central Bank of Paraguay indicated the need for a readjustment of 4.4% of the minimum wage.
“What the Council does is validate what the law says and starting in July we will have these new values,” said Vice Minister of Labor César Segovia, when reporting on the work of the National Salary Commission.
The decree also authorizes the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security to regulate and publish minimum wages for various specified activities.
The wage adjustment seeks to compensate for the loss of purchasing power of workers in response to the increase in prices of basic products.
