Members of the Coordinator March 8 and different organizations carried out a march this Friday to commemorate the International Women’s Daya date on which a call is made to respect the rights of this population and the struggle that has been carried out for years in search of equality is vindicated.
The mobilization began at 2:00 p.m. It left from the area in front of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and included passing through several streets and avenues, heading to the National Palace of Culture, in order to reach the Plaza de la Constitución and close with other activities in the framework of this commemoration.
The Guatemalans used blankets, vuvuzelas, posters, fireworks and loudspeakers to make themselves heard. Their approaches focused on asking for a dignified life, access to justice, and an end to criminalization and violence.
These are some of the messages observed on the banners: “Free, powerful, alive and without fear”; “the point is that we have all been harassed, not that everyone harasses”; “I want to live, not survive”; and “we exist, we resist!”.
