In Atánquez they remembered the 15 police officers killed by the FARC

The National Police commemorated 20 years of the attack perpetrated on the road that leads to the corregimiento of Atánquez, municipality of Valledupar, where 15 members of the National Police, lost their lives after an ambush with explosives executed by members of the 59th front of the extinct Farc.

The attack occurred on August 1, 2005, when a group of the Carabineros mobile squad was traveling on institutional mission was intercepted by activating improvised explosive devices. The fact left a void in all the relatives of the deceased and marked a violent event in this region of the department of Cesar and the country, which is still remembered sadly.

As a commemorative act, the Metropolitan Police of Valledupar conducted a solemn mass in which high controls of the National Police and relatives of the deceased uniformed participated, who paid tribute to the sacrifice of their loved ones.

During the ceremony, a prayer for the eternal rest of these 15 heroes rose and their courage, honor and commitment to the defense of legality in Colombia was remembered.

“These men offered their lives fulfilling their duty. Today, 20 years later, we remember them with the same respect and gratitude as the first day,” said the commander of the Metropolitan Police of Valledupar, Colonel Alex Durán, during the ceremony.
