During the entire history of observations in 2024 January was record hot, the reason for which scientists consider climate change. This was reported by the Reuters agency.
It is noted that according to the data of the “Copernicus” Climate Change Service, last month exceeded the record of the previous warmest January, which was recorded in 2020.
By the way, 2023 was recognized as the hottest year on the planet since observations began in 1850.
In 2023 starting from June, every month becomes the warmest compared to the same month of the previous year.
“In addition to this being the warmest January on record, we also had a 12-month period in which temperatures were 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels,” said Samantha Burgess, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
In 2015, as part of the Paris climate agreement, countries agreed to try to prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius. Although the temperature has exceeded 1.5 degrees in 12 months, it has not yet crossed the target of the Paris Agreement, which takes into account the average temperature of the planet over several decades.
Some scientists believe that reaching this goal is already unrealistic, but they also called for faster action to reduce carbon dioxide emissions so that worse consequences can be avoided.
