In 2023, passenger movement at the Valledupar airport decreased

A total of 487,107 passengers were transported through the Alfonso López Pumarejo airport in Valledupar; and 6,748 operations were carried out during the year 2023. According to the balance provided by La Concession Aeropuertos de Oriente SAS

“In 2023, passenger traffic was close to 40,799 passengers, below that recorded in 2022. The factors that, for the most part, caused the situation corresponded to the exit of the Viva Air airlines from the market and the suspension of the route to Bogotá. by Latam Airlines, which initially caused an impact of close to 20% in our airport network,” said Nelson Rodríguez Cruz, Manager of Aeropuertos de Oriente SAS.

The senior executive highlighted that “despite the departure of the airline Viva Air from the market and the suspension of operations of Latam, the commercial strategies of the Concession reduced this negative impact and it was possible to control this scenario with the increase in domestic flights. at the airport, which shielded the air connectivity of Valledupar and Cesar.”

Operations in 2023 also presented a negative variation compared to 2022. These are the records: In the first 10 days of 2024, a growth of more than 1% was achieved in passengers transported, compared to the same period in 2023.

“With the commercial strategies applied to maintain air connectivity, strengthening our relationships with airlines and tourism unions, we managed to start 2024 in positive numbers. This indicates that starting in March or April 2024, the figures may change substantially since we will not have a record of passengers transported by Viva Air,” highlighted Nelson Rodríguez Cruz.
