Protect Yourself from Respiratory Viruses
As the months go by, respiratory viruses such as flu, pneumonia, and Covid tend to increase. To combat this, the Ministry of Public Health, led by Dr. Luis Medina Ruiz, strongly advises individuals, especially those belonging to high-risk groups, to complete their vaccination schedules.
Flu Vaccines for High-Risk Groups
High-risk groups for flu vaccines include healthcare workers, pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, postpartum women who missed their doses during pregnancy, individuals aged 2 to 64 with underlying health conditions, and individuals aged 65 and above.
Dr. Ricardo Cortes, the head of the Siprosa Immunization Division, emphasized the importance of these groups receiving the 2023 flu vaccine and Covid booster shots based on their risk category.
Vaccination for Individuals with Mild Viral Symptoms
Dr. Cortes reassured that individuals with mild viral symptoms can still receive the vaccine without any contraindications. However, if they have a fever, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional as both flu and Covid are currently circulating.
He further added, “In some cases, additional tests may be necessary to determine the appropriate course of action.”
Simultaneous Administration of Flu and Covid Vaccines
Dr. Cortes clarified that flu and Covid vaccines can be administered simultaneously or with any time interval between them. This flexibility allows individuals to conveniently protect themselves against both viruses.
