ASSUMPTION- The manager of Petróleos Paraguayos (Petropar), William Wilka, referred to the reduction in prices of two types of diesel and explained why the same could not be done with gasoline. “Petropar imports between 40 and 50 thousand cubic meters of diesel per month, while in the case of gasoline the volume is much smaller, between 5 thousand and 10 thousand cubic meters,” said Wilka, in an interview with the program “ Así son things”, broadcast by the station Universo 970 AM-Nación Media and Canal GEN.
Yesterday, starting at 2:00 p.m., the prices of common diesel and type I diesel at all service stations in the Petropar network experienced a reduction of 300 guaraníes per liter. This decrease, which will continue until September, represents the fifth reduction in fuel prices in the 10 months of President Santiago Peña’s government and the third specifically in diesel.
Wilka explained that this difference in import volumes implies a greater turnover in the case of gasoline and a greater impact of variations in international prices, which currently does not allow it to accompany a drop in gasoline prices. However, he stressed that at least gasoline prices are being kept stable.
In the case of diesel, greater storage capacity and large volume purchases allowed Petropar to generate a surplus. “In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, as soon as we have a surplus we will transfer it immediately and that is what we are doing,” said Wilka.
Wilka also indicated that international prices for both diesel and gasoline showed an upward trend in June, as did the exchange rate. However, good purchases and the large volume of diesel, together with the existing stock, allowed Petropar to make this reduction and maintain it until September.
THESE ARE THE NEW PRICES:
Diesel Porã: before, G. 7,740; now G. 7,440
Diesel Mbarete: before, G. 9,540; now G. 9,240
