Import and export of Darshana land port will be closed for 7 consecutive days – 2024-04-05 21:53:13

The land port of Chuadanga will be closed for seven consecutive days on the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, Bengali New Year and weekend holidays. During this time, the import-export activities through this port will be closed. However, the movement of passport holders between Bangladesh and India will be normal during this holiday.

General Secretary of Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association (C&F) Atiyar Rahman Habu confirmed the matter on Thursday (April 4).

He said, from Monday (April 8), import and export through Darshana Sthal and railway port will be stopped. Customs and port officials will leave for Eid at their respective homes. After Eid, Pahela Baisakh and weekend. All in all, port operations will be closed for a total of seven days before and after Eid. However, passport holder passenger movement will continue as usual. After the holiday, import-export will start again from April 15.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Darshana Checkpost Police Immigration Atiqur Rahman Atiq said that the authorities have decided to close the land port from April 8-14. However, the movement of passengers with passports of India and Bangladesh will be normal including on Eid.

Regarding public holidays, he said, ‘We got public holidays, but not all together. Some manpower will be there for the sake of continuing the activities.’

Darshana International Railway Station Manager Mirza Kamrul Hasan said that operations of Darshana land port will be closed from April 8 to April 14 on the occasion of Eid, Bengali New Year and weekend holidays. Although April 8 and 9 are official working days, it has been decided to close the port’s import-export operations. From April 15, import-export and customs activities will start as usual.

He also said that India-Bangladesh Railways has taken a joint decision to close the International Maitri Express train running between Dhaka-Kolkata from April 7 to April 17 as there is not much pressure of passengers going to India during Eid.

Apart from this, the empty wagons that India currently has inside the country will be sent back in stages before Eid. Because India has to pay a certain amount of rent for wagons.
