Estonia has always been like a “big brother”, which we try to emulate, which we compare to Latvia, but it is no longer so unambiguous.
This sentiment was expressed by Ilga Kreituse, RSU professor, political scientist in the TV24 program “Dienas personība”. You recently visited Estonia for quite a long time and made several observations.
This is good news for Latvia: “For the first time in recent years we can say that they are worse off.”
As in Latvia, also in Estonia, when discussing the salaries of officials, where the increase seems to many to be inadequate, people are dissatisfied with it.
There is also a lot of talk about mistrust of the media and journalists, especially when it comes to how the government reports.
Ilga Kreituse also says that in Latvia we tend to be shocked when we see the prices of food products in shops, for example lampreys at 43 euros per kilogram, but Estonians are even crazier, food is even more expensive.
“On the one hand it is a shame for Estonians, on the other hand it is no longer an ideal to strive for.”
