III Cycle of Exhibitions by Yungay Artists

III Cycle of Exhibitions by Yungay Artists

  • Yungay neighborhood (see list below).
  • Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 – 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. hours.

The Yungay neighborhood has become one of the most creative urban spaces in the capital of Chile. Located in the northwestern sector of Santiago, it is home to more than 30 cultural spaces and 80 artists. In this context, the Third Cycle of Yungay Artist Exhibitions is being developed, where attendees will be able to visit six individual and group exhibitions for free.

The event is organized by the Artistas Yungay viewing platform, which is funded by the Support Program for collaborating cultural organizations, Call 2023 of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

Violeta Chiang, director of Artistas Yungay comments that “the project has grown and strengthened enormously in the last three years. We went from carrying out an annual activity that is Yungay Artists Open Doors to establishing Hifas Gallery with five exhibitions and an extensive mediation program. In addition, there is Agenda Yungay that compiles the activities, courses, workshops and also the gastronomic spaces in the neighborhood on a digital platform and on Instagram. This year, for the second time, we will award the Yungay Artists Scholarship that corresponds to workshop residency spaces for artists throughout the year. And now the cycle of exhibitions is added, there are six that are open to the public these two days and we also welcome 20 new artists who join our network.”

“The curating of this third cycle of exhibitions is carried out by each participating gallery or workshop. We invite spaces to present their own proposals. In the case of Galería Hifas, we have been working for more than a year on a curatorial line with the contribution of artists and theorists that includes very varied women artists,” she adds.

This is just one of the upcoming activities as Artistas Yungay is constantly expanding.

“This year for the first time we left the neighborhood, we have an invitation to the Valparaíso Biennial where we will hold a collective exhibition of 10 different artists at the GAM. At BiblioGam we are going to show the archive of Artistas Yungay, on April 6 we will launch our website artistsyungay.cl, it has been a tremendous feat to publish this virtual space that includes an e-commerce with the ‘Art Warehouse’ and several surprises more than we hope to be able to accomplish this year,” Violeta emphasizes.
