The ship was lost in time until a team of explorers captured the first images of the wreck in 1985.

“The bow of the Titanic is iconic. There are so many moments of this story in pop culture. That’s what comes to mind when you think of the shipwreck. It doesn’t seem that way anymore,” said Tomasina Ray, who led the expedition.

Images and 3D scans of the wreck created by deep-sea mapping company Magellan and documentary makers Atlantic Productions in 2022 found the rail was still in place.

Based on these findingsresearchers believe the section must have collapsed sometime in the last two years, because the metal structure of the ship is being consumed by microorganisms, creating large rust stalactites called rusticles.
