MEXICO CITY (apro).- This Monday, June 17, actor Ian McKellen, 85, lost his balance and suffered a fall at the Noël Coward Theater in London, during the play “Player Kings.” staging where he plays John Falstaff.
The actor lost his balance and fell off the stage in a scene with the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy. “Sir Ian appeared to stumble as he walked off stage to take a more active role in the scene,” an onlooker told the PA news agency.
After the fall, theater staff and two doctors who were in the audience helped the actor, the “Player Kings” spokesperson said. The theater was evacuated and the play suspended. The performance this Tuesday, June 18, was also canceled to give McKellen time to recover and rest.
“Following an examination, the brilliant team at the NHS (British National Health Service) assured us that he will make a quick and complete recovery and that Ian is in good spirits,” the production spokesperson shared in a statement.
Recently, in an interview with the British newspaper “The Times”, McKellen was asked if he would play Gandalf again, since it was confirmed that in 2026 the saga of “The Lord of the Rings” will return to theaters with the film “The Hunt”. of Gollum”, by Andy Serkis, who will play Sméagol and will also direct the film.
