In a conversation with the media “Expressen”, the ice hockey player of the club “Brynas”, the second strongest league in Sweden (Allsvenskan), commented on the disqualification he received.
It has already been announced that the day before yesterday the leading team “Brynas” represented by Mika Indraš and Čukste defeated the “Ostersund” team with the result of 10:2. In the third period Čukste earned a suspension for 2+2 minutes, but now the defender of the Latvian national team received a harsher punishment.
“First of all, I want to apologize because I didn’t want to hurt my opponent,” Chukste said. “The emotions reached a high wave and we got caught up in the acrimony. Then I bent down and accidentally hit my opponent. There was no force or aggression on my part and it was not my intention to hit the opponent.”
“It was an accident and I’m grateful that I wasn’t forced to leave the game,” explains the Latvian hockey player. “Once again I want to emphasize that my goal was not to injure my opponent. I want to apologize for my actions.”
