“I don’t have a return ticket”

AREQUIPA, Peru – Popular Cuban actress Maikel Amelia, known for her work on television, recently left the island. The artist arrived in Spain, where part of her family resides, and spoke in a recent interview about her possible permanent departure from Cuba.

Maikel Amelia was recently invited to the program Abel everywhereon YouTube, with Abel Álvarez, where the host asked him how long he planned to stay in Spain.

“I haven’t decided yet. I don’t have a return ticket yet. I’ll tell you later,” said the actress.

Although the artist avoided giving further details about her departure from Cuba, she said she was delighted with her stay in the Iberian country, where she has been meeting with friends and loved ones.

“Well, you said there is no return ticket. But will there be more?” Following the trail with you?” Álvarez asked in reference to her work as Major Lucía in the Cuban dramatization.

“Yes, there are some recorded programs. I am simply on vacation,” replied Maikel Amelia, laughing, who also said that she is in Spain with her daughter, her uncles, her mother and her brother.

Maikel Amelia Reyes, her full name, was born in the town of Manzanillo, Granma, on April 1, 1977. Daughter of Ciro Antonio ‘Cirito’ Reyes, first violin of the Original Orchestra of Manzanillo, and Adis D. Fernández, professor of Spanish and Art History.

From a very young age she showed a passion for various artistic expressions, which is why she became involved in music by joining the Manuel Navarro Luna Academy to study piano.

Before acting, she also studied other forms of art, completing the elementary level of painting and drawing at the Carlos Enrique School of Plastic Arts.

Eventually, Maikel Amelia participated in several plays and discovered her true calling, acting, one that would explode in that medium and on the Island’s screens, especially after moving to Havana.

Since then she has become one of the most popular actresses in the country and has had credits in productions such as Here we are, Saint Mary of the Future, The Other Cornerand recently, the soap opera Vice versa and those mentioned Following the Footprint.
