State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said that onions and sugar can be imported from India by land during the holy month of Ramadan. He said this during an exchange of views with business leaders at Chittagong Circuit House on Thursday (February 15) afternoon.
The state minister said, we have spoken with the commerce ministry of India. We can bring onions and sugar from India by land during Ramadan. Facilitate import of goods from India. Small businessmen benefit. In this way, 50,000 to 60,000 tons do not have to be brought together in a big ship.
Requesting traders to be conscientious during the month of Ramadan, he said, not only during Ramadan, we want to keep the market stable throughout the year. We live in a free country. There is no problem as long as businessmen behave responsibly from their place of work.
Meanwhile, the state minister said that the country currently has 1.8 million tons of food grains.

Addressing the businessmen, he said, we will do all the work that the businessmen have raised in stages. Our Ministry will not have any work pending. We will ensure accountability everywhere. There is an Agricultural Marketing Act, but it has not been implemented for a long time. There is an Essential Commodities Act, a Food Control Act. We will start working on these laws in the next 20 days. New market management instructions will be given from March 1.
The state minister said that if there is no reasonable price of agricultural products, no one will survive. We are now in a little trouble with onions. But we are bringing them under field level monitoring. We are monitoring onion market in markets of 20-25 districts across the country. If the onion sold for 100 rupees today, it will not be available next year. Because production will increase.

Stating that the ministry is working to create women entrepreneurs, the state minister said that according to the directives of the prime minister, every upazila plan in the country has been drawn up to bring forward women entrepreneurs and create employment. We will organize fairs at upazila, district and divisional levels with every product produced by grassroots people from every village under the banner of ‘One Village One Product’ and provide technical support. If these products are international products, it won’t take long for a person to become a millionaire.
About giving TCB products, he said, TCB products will be given to one crore families in February. Prime Minister’s announcement. Rice, oil, gram and dal are being given. Sugar and dates will be added in front.
Referring to the need to create competition in the market, Ahsanul Islam Titu said that the best price is available in the market through competition. And we have to see that those who are in charge of the administration should not play foul.

Stating that steps have been taken to control the price of rice in the market, the minister said, “We will not go to the shops and take any information now.” We will verify exactly which mill the rice is coming from. He said, we are not willing to tolerate the suffering of the people in any way, at any stage. No businessman can prosper by making people suffer. No one can move forward. We will also focus on ease of doing business, so that traders can import and export easily.
In the event, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said that the global economy is facing challenges due to the situation in Gaza after the Russia-Ukraine war. There is a dollar crisis in the country. Due to which the price of the product is affected.
Abul Bashar, President of Khatunganj Traders Welfare Association, said that very profitable traders increase the price of products. Action can be taken against them. The National Board of Revenue should take measures two to three months in advance to control or reduce the prices of goods during Ramadan. So that the prices of products fall one to two months before Ramadan.
