This was expressed by the president of the Communist Party, Lautaro Carmona, in response to the decision of the Venezuelan government to determine the departure of the Chilean diplomatic personnel accredited in Caracas. When asked by journalists about the Venezuelan presidential election, Lautaro Carmona said that “we are confident that the procedure of making the entire electoral process transparent will be completed, which was carried out in an exemplary manner, without any alteration, in full peaceful coexistence, and that must be emphasized. The fall of the world was almost announced on that election day (and) it was an exemplary day.”
“The Century”. Santiago. 7/30/2024. Faced with the decision of the Venezuelan government to demand the departure of Chilean diplomatic personnel in Caracas and withdraw its ambassador to Chile, the president of the Communist Party, Lautaro Carmona, said that “I am not in favor of affecting diplomatic relations based on differences that evidently exist, even positions that may be more radical than others” and added that “coexistence should not be altered because these are the possibilities that peoples have, which are represented through States, to make their views known.”
The Venezuelan government’s decision was prompted by statements made by President Gabriel Boric regarding the recent presidential elections in that country, which the Venezuelan authorities found to be interventionist.
Regarding the president’s statements regarding the process in Venezuela and the positions of the Communist Party leaders, Carmona indicated that “the Communist Party at all events recognizes that Chile’s foreign policy is led, represented and defined by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric” and emphasized that “he has that power and we have never said anything contrary.”
The PC president stated that “the positions that the Communist Party expresses regarding other points of the planet are not intended to compete with or antagonize the formulations made by the President.”
Asked by journalists about the Venezuelan presidential election, Lautaro Carmona said that “we are confident that the process of making the entire electoral process transparent will be completed, which was carried out in an exemplary manner, without any alterations, in full peaceful coexistence, and that must be emphasized. The fall of the world was almost announced on that election day (and) it was an exemplary day.”
He stated that in Venezuela “there is an electronic system, which has a printed validation, the count of that printed form is done to compare it with the electronic system, which has been tested and validated by international bodies. And I conclude by saying that there were many observers from different parts of the world, among others, from (José Luis) Rodríguez Zapatero, close to some who are very concerned about the position of the Communist Party, former president (Ernesto) Samper, as well as the Carter Center. There was a large concentration of the international press, it is open data.”
Asked whether Maduro’s victory was recognized or not, the president of the PC warned that “it is not up to me to recognize, it is up to me to validate a State procedure” and stressed that “it is obvious that I have no other alternative than to accept the results that their institutions (report). I am not the one who sets or does not set intention. That intention includes the oversight systems that they have and that they have to complete and make transparent.”
