– Mr. Sabir, what is happening in Tanzila Rustamkhanli’s circle? Is the scandal being controlled from outside or is it a natural protest?
– It is calm in the constituency. What’s happening is the approach of social media, and it’s definitely controlled from the outside. Among the candidates, there are those who, even if Ms. Tanzila were not here, the people would not vote for their election as a member of parliament. Even if they vote, it will be a “black face” for Neftchala. Nevertheless, we have not said a negative word about any candidate since the first day.
– Where do these conversations come from?
– You know, they see themselves there. Let them carry out their propaganda, everything will be clear in the end. Tanzila Khanum’s pictures were torn in different places. Then they spread the rumor that, on the contrary, we are tearing their pictures. He may have been a provocateur and tarnished the image of both sides. But we have repeatedly stated that we don’t rip pictures, on the contrary, we paste other people’s torn pictures in their place.
– Does Ms. Tanzila hold meetings in the villages?
– Of course, Ms. Tanzila holds very nice and sincere meetings with voters in many villages.
– Images have been spread against you. They claim that you didn’t do anything for the oil workers during your time as a deputy. They even say that they will not vote for Ms. Tanzila, citing this as a basis. Did Sabir Rustamkhanli really do nothing for the people of Neftchala during his tenure as a deputy?
– Of course, I cannot build roads and water on my own. But as soon as the deputy was elected, I appealed to President Ilham Aliyev that Neftachala’s situation is not encouraging. Imagine that the water of the Caspian Sea had flooded Kura and Kura had become salty up to Salyan. With the help of the local executive power, a 300-meter dam was built in front of Kür. As a result, Kurun salinization was prevented. Besides, the roads between the villages were in disrepair. In the Khol district, which is one of the major regions of the region, they said that whoever fixes our broken road will be our deputy forever. I applied, as a result, 42 km of road was built. I managed to solve the water issues as well. I will even say that there was no gas in Khalil Reza’s village. Finally, we pumped gas to that village.
– Have you done anything for the families of the martyrs?
– There was a destroyed martyr’s grave in Banka settlement. As soon as I was elected deputy, my first task was to restore it. There are 3 National Heroes and 20 martyrs in Hasanabad settlement. There, with my own funds, I built a beautiful park that is not found in any town of the republic. I brought trees from Baku, made busts of our National Heroes, and made marble bas-reliefs of the rest. We created a small paradise there in honor of our martyrs. The whole community of Neftchala knows this. This is not an exhaustive list of what I have done. Deaf, blind or hostile people can say what did Sabir Rustamkhanli do? Everything is in sight.
– Why did Tanzila Rustamkhanli put forward his candidacy from Neftchala district?
– I saw such advice. I trusted the work I did and the attitude of the people. Of course, everyone will vote for the candidate they want. Some of those who oppose the national forces are still saying that her husband has not done anything, so what will he do?! In any case, the struggle and sufferings we have endured for a lifetime for national independence, state independence, freedom of speech and press are obvious.
– Is it possible that this irritation among some people is due to the fact that several of our deputies withdrew and nominated their family members? People have a question: Why today some people turn the Milli Majlis into a “Family Majlis”?
– Let me note that I look at Azerbaijan as a whole family. I wish the Milli Majlis was the big family of Azerbaijan. There are different parties in the parliament. Each party selects its own candidate. Tanzila Rustamkhanli is my friend as well as a citizen of Azerbaijan. Civil rights also apply to him. He is a person who has done serious work in the Turkic world, in Azerbaijan, regarding the protection of our national rights. Shouldn’t she exercise her right because she is my wife?
– The majority says that each district should be represented by its own resident. That is, one of the issues is that Tanzila Rustamkhanli is not originally from Neftchala.
– This is not the right approach. There is no prohibition in this regard in the constitution of Azerbaijan. As a citizen, anyone can nominate from wherever they want. Ms. Tanzila is well-known in the public, she has shed tears with me for 30 years in Europe and Turkey in Khojaly. How much work has the man done? They don’t see these things, but they quickly see that she is my wife and that she is not originally from oil fields. I am personally proud that my wife is one of the respected and well-known women of Azerbaijan.
– Tanzila Rustamkhanli is also criticized for his accent. They say, why does Turkey (Anatolian) speak Turkish in Azerbaijan?
– You should be proud of that. None of the Turkish words used by Mrs. Tanzila came from Ottoman Turkish. Most of them are ancient words of our own language that are used in Turkish Turkish today. When one person speaks Turkish, it causes irritation, but Russian speakers do not. There is no one who condemns those who pollute their speech with street-market Russian expressions on television. This is a very ugly thought. What do we want? Russian language does not take away our language, as soon as we use five or six words in Turkish, our language goes out of hand? On the one hand, we talk about brotherhood with Turkey, Turkish unity, trusting our brotherly people in the fight against the enemy, and on the other hand, we accuse those who live with the love of Turkishness, of Turanism and Turkism! What is this thinking? All this is managed from the outside, it is a policy of indirectly serving Armenia and Persia to create coldness between Turkey and Azerbaijan and leave Azerbaijan alone in the middle.
– Finally, what do you wish for Tanzila Rustamkhanli?
– I wish him victory on his way out! I believe and I am sure that if he is elected, he will be a very good deputy.
