Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyyarto thanked the US presidential administration for lifting sanctions from the Paksh nuclear power plant, which is being built by the Russian company Rosatom, Liter.kz reports.
“With their sanctions, they actually made it impossible to continue the construction of Paksh nuclear power plants. Fortunately, since January, in the White House in Washington, there is a man who refers to Hungary as a friend. As a sign of this, the American government lifted the sanctions related to the construction of the PAKSH nuclear power plant, ”said the Foreign Minister of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
According to Siyyarto, the completion of construction will allow Hungary to become a major player in the field of energy, providing the country with electricity for many years.
Air Force Notesthat Paksh is the only existing nuclear power plant in Hungary, it was built according to the Soviet project and, according to the owners of the station, produces more than half of electricity generated in the country. In 2014, Russia and Hungary signed an agreement on the construction of two new blocks of nuclear power plants, also according to Russian technology. 5 years later, it was possible to obtain permission to build from the European Union, the construction began in 2022. The United States has not yet confirmed that the sanctions were really lifted.
