How will banks work in Cuba on New Year’s Eve and public holidays?

If you need to bank in Cuba these days, it is important that you know how the banks on the island will work, in this end of the year 2023 and during the holidays of the beginning of 2024. We will explain it below.

Banco Metropolitano has informed its customers, through the media, about the opening hours for the end-of-year holidays. This December 29, 2023, the service will close at 12 noon, due to the close of the 2023 fiscal year.

On December 30, 2023, branches operating that day will do so during normal hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On December 31, 2023, January 1 and 2, 2024, the Metropolitan Bank service will not be active.

On January 3, 2024, the branches that will open on that day will do so from 10:00 to 14:00 to offer all cash services. On 4 January 2024 the service will be restored to normal times across the entire branch network.

During these days, according to the Metropolitan Bank of Havana, the service of electronic means of payment will be maintained.

“It is suggested to use online payments for goods and services via QR codes or point of sale (POS or POS) devices as an option, use the EXTRA Cash service to withdraw cash in shops and other places where it is available; as well as in open CADECA branches,” they noted.

According to the BANDEC branch in Cienfuegos, they will work as follows. This Saturday, December 30, is the last day of service provision in 2023 in offices. Only cash deposits will be received from Commerce and Gastronomy Group entities on Monday 1 January 2024.

On Tuesday 2 January the same service will be offered for the business sector. On Thursday 4 January the in-person service for private individuals and economic operators will resume in all branches, during normal hours.
